Why you need to start scrubbing

Exfoliating your skin is such an important step in your weekly skincare regime and it is often overlooked. We all know this skin care product exists, but many of us don't take the time to use them.

90% of the dust in your home is dead skin cells. Gross, right? The skin cells on your body regularly shed to reveal new, healthier skin underneath. However, the older we get the more that process slows down and we need to help it a little.

Your body is covered in a layer of dead skin cells. The moisturiser that you put on your skin has to work its way through layers of dead skin cells just to reach the top layer of your skin or the epidermis. No matter how much body lotion you put on those dead skin cells, they still remain dead skin cells.

If you want healthy smooth skin you must remove that layer of dead skin cells. Not only will your body moisturiser work better after you exfoliate, your skin will look brighter and more even toned. Regular exfoliating helps to slough off the dead skin and the rubbing action boosts circulation and helps drain your lymph nodes, by increasing the blood flow to the skins surface. It also helps moisturisers and serums penetrate your skin better too.

Each of our Body Scrubs are handcrafted with a unique blend of oils, salts, sugars and botanical extracts to remove dry, flaky skin leaving you soft and supple. Simply use a handful and massage all over your body in circular motions and watch your skin transform.

So just what are the benefits of a body scrub?

# 1 - Makes Skin Look Fresh and Rejuvenated

The removal of dead skin cells from the body leaves you feeling fresh and your skin looking rejuvenated and revitalized.

# 2 - Makes Skin Look More Youthful

Exfoliating dead skin cells tends to remove the dull appearance of the skin. Humans shed skin cells daily (anywhere from 11,000-23,000 skin cells an hour) and it usually takes about 27 to 30 days before new skin cells reach the top layer of the skin. Using a body scrub regularly will help make your skin look more vibrant and youthful.

# 3 - Moisturizing Benefits

Our range of body scrubs are all natural and are enriched with natural plant oils; coconut oils, sweet almond oil and vitamin E oils lock in moisture and keep your skin soft and hydrated.

Body Scrub Benefits # 4: Improved Self Tanning

More and more people are using self-tanners. To achieve a realistic "fake" tan using a self-tanner is to exfoliate with a gentle body scrub first. If you don't do this to remove any dead skin cells then you run the risk of ending up with a blotchy look as the self-tanner will darken areas where more dead skin cells accumulate.

If your skin is healthy and firm you can use a scrub up to 3 times a week but if you have sensitive skin we suggest you scrub only once a week.

How do you use a body scrub? Get your body nice and wet. Then apply the scrub in circular motions (away from the running water). Let it sit on your skin for a few minutes if you can to let the ingredients go to work, then rinse. You may have to give your shower a rinse too as it could be a little slippery. Once out of the shower apply moisturiser (if necessary).

If you have a sunburn or a rash or other skin condition, give the body scrub a rest. Some of the ingredients and the rubbing could further irritate your skin.
