We are what we eat

Our skin is our largest organ and it is not only a reflection of our external beauty but also the health of our insides.

Did you know we absorb more through our skin than through what we eat ? In fact, up to 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bloodstream. So even though ‘We are what we eat’ is true, ‘We are a reflection of what we put on our skin’ is perhaps more accurate.

To prove this point, Martin Fox, Ph.D. author of Healthy Water for Longer Life states the following :

  • In a 15-minute bath, the average adult absorbs 63% of the elements in the water
  • Drinking 2 litres of water, the absorption rate of elements is only 27%

So what are some simple things you can do to help care for your skin inside and out ?

  1. Drinking an adequate amount of water daily is important for overall good health because water aids in digestion, circulation, absorption and even excretion. Lack of hydration will cause dry, tight skin which in turn is more prone to wrinkling.
  2. Nourishment is vital to healthy skin. Eat healthy, incorporate as much raw food into your diet as you can and avoid foods that can cause inflammation such as dairy, wheat and processed foods.  Incorporating fermented foods into your diet will give you a healthy boost of probiotics and good bacteria. This in turn promotes a healthy gut and healthy skin.
  3. Switch to using natural skincare products and avoid putting toxic ingredients and nasty chemicals onto your skin and into your body.

Here at Harvest Garden we strive to make skincare products that are affordable, completely natural, free from all nasties and are fun and easy to use.

We believe nature provides everything we need to make great skincare, we just add the finishing touches.
